Abstract

The immigration of Italians to Brazil contributed to the blend of Italian and Brazilian cultures, creating an identity with learnings and traditions that are preserved in the memories and customs of their descendants. This work aims to represent a part of the life memories of Mário Moro, a descendant of Italian immigrants, through surface design, representing the historical and cultural context of Nova Veneza. This work is considered important as it portrays a part of the history of a resident of this city, who had contact with Italian immigrants and has an experienced trajectory throughout the history of Nova Veneza. The methodology can be characterized as applied and exploratory with a qualitative approach to conduct an interview with Mário Moro and acquire information on the topic, with a technical procedure based on literature and experimental research, using the strategy proposed by Iara Aguiar Mol (2018), through the project methodology called "Surfaces of a Place" (Superfícies de um Lugar), with the objective of developing a dinnerware collection about the life of Mário Moro. Through the results obtained from the research, it was possible to understand the life story of Mário Moro, relating it to the cultural context of Italian immigration and defining 5 main themes for application: gastronomy, religion, work, childhood, and Italian culture. In this sense, based on the information, it was possible to produce a dinnerware collection that represents a part of Mário Moro's life story.
