Abstract

The need to minimize investments and expenses in problem solving and renovation of the manufacturing environment, makes search for alternatives where economic limitation is fundamental. In this context, the process known as retrofitting emerges as an option in which the cost-benefit ratio, for the most part, has proved to be quite efficient. In this study, a focus will be given on the retrofit process in a hydraulic press, used in the vulcanization process, demonstrating the feasibility for the modernization of the industrial plant, with guarantee of better results, and possibility of managing the process data. For this, a survey was made of the properties of the equipment and of the company's need for modeling and optimization to best serve the production process. The automation was carried out using a CLP (Programmable Logic Controller) model CLP 4004 produced by the company Schneider Electric, with programming done in the Ladder language. Other features such as displays and electrical devices have been added to allow the equipment to perform its function according to what has been established. The activity also required a study on the rubber formation and vulcanization process, and suitability of the equipment to the NR12 regulatory standard. The result of this development has led to increased productivity, reduced rework, operational risk and reduced investment.
